Girl Scout Way

THE GIRL SCOUT WAY

The Girl Scout Way has evolved during the first 100 years of Girl Scouting.

But one thing has remained consistent through the years: the idea of

Sisterhood. Being a sister to every Girl Scout and growing as a girl have

always been core beliefs in Girl Scouts. As you go through the activities

think about how important it still is to be a sister to every Girl

Scout, whether they are near or far.

While working on this badge the girls will be learning how to practice and share in the Girl Scout way.

There are 5 steps to the Legacy.

1.   Sing Everywhere

2.   Celebrate Juliette Low’s Birthday

3.   Share Sisterhood

4.   Leave a place better than you found it

5.   Enjoy Girl Scout traditions

There will be parts of this that I will ask you to work on at home with your daughter.  Am starting this with your daughters today and I am hoping we can wrap it up at the next meeting.

Please be on the lookout for more to be posted tonight after the meeting to see what the girls have chosen to do for the 5 steps.

Money Manager

Money Manager !

This year the girls will be working on the “Money Manager” badge. As part of this badge I am introducing what is called brownie bucks. In real life money helps us buy things we need, like food and clothes.  And, money helps us buy things we want, like video games and movie tickets!  During the year the girls will be learning the difference between wants and needs while working on this badge.

Each of the girls are going to need to print the brownie ELF doll, the Brownie uniform, and an bring envelope to store your elf in. To begin each girl will be given $17 in Brownie Bucks. Girls will be able to earn Brownie Bucks through attendance of events, meeting, community service, and kapers. Another way to earn Brownie Bucks is to design outfts ( Outline  provided on the link) . So be creative. Girls will learn how to market and seel their items.
The girls will be also opening a pretend bank account at the ELF BANK . This will allow girls the chance to deposit their Brownie Bucks into their bank account. They will be given a chance to make deposits, withdrawls and write checks to the ELF store they will be running. This will help teach them money mangement , how to save and we throw some math learning skills in the mix !
The ELFS are on this site, Print them up ( I will laminate them at the meeting). If you do not have access to a printer please let me know so I can print one for your daughter.
At the end of the year girls will be able to turn their savings in for prizes from the treasure box!

The girls will need to bring their ELF dolls to every meeting as part of our Kaper duties there will be a different girl playing store keeper for the ELF shop. This will allow the girls to:

1.      Shop for ELF items with their ELF doll

2.     Go grocery shopping

3.     Go clothes shopping

4.     Get ready for school

5.     Have fun

Things that are being discussed with your daughter during this patch are:

A BUDGET is a plan for saving and spending money.  If you had $10 to spend on birthday gifts, then you could create a budget to figure out how to buy presents without spending more than $10

SAVINGS is money that you’ve set aside, like coins in a piggy bank.  Good budgets should always make room for savings.  When you have money in savings, you have money set aside in case of a surprise or emergency,

Brownie way!

Community Service!

Troop #1111 is a service oriented Troop. All of the leaders here in Troop # 1111 believes there are no reasons why every girl in this troop should not be able to earn a service patch. Here in Troop #1111 there is a contest...we call it "Service Hearts" and for every 5 hours, your daughter will be presented with a service heart.
One of our girls ended up with 7 service hearts last year.  There were two girls with 6 service hearts and one girl with 5 service hearts. Those 4 girls represented more than half of the total service for the whole troop. There will be a top winner for each level.
So serve your community proud!
There are some rules in the “Service Hearts” contest. The girls cannot have gardening with grandma count, or serving as an altar girl....but working in a soup kitchen, going to a nursing home (playing games or doing crafts with the residents), going to the shelter and socializing kittens or puppies, assisting with shelving books at county library, community/school beautification, etc do. If you have a question about something that would 'count', let Wendy or I know. Each girl has the chance to serve her community well and with pride.
People here in the community are very grateful and proud of all the accomplishments our girls in Troop # 1111 have achieved.
Friday, August 30, 2013

I hope you are having a great start to the new school year !  I am so excited to get to know all of the girls that I do not know already and that are new to Troop #1111

Our troop will be starting back up our Girl Scouts meetings soon and I wanted to share some basic information with you.

Our first meeting will be: September 5th  from   4:30-5:30 PM at the Lake Royale Clubhouse.
Meetings are every other Thursday at the clubhouse from 4:30-5:30PM.

A parent/guardian for each girl should plan to stay for the
first 15 minutes of the meeting to get troop information,
review the schedule, complete outstanding paperwork, etc.

In addition to troop meetings, we are trying to plan lots of
great activities for the girls this year. We'll share that
information and schedule once it is ready. Look in your email.

Between now and the first meeting, please get the following
ready:

#1 - Registration forms and dues

To register for Girl Scouts, you can do it online (link below),
Girl Scouts requires a $15 annual  fee for dues per child
for registration. If you are unable to register online then please ask Wendy F to help you register in paper format.

#2 - Troop Fees

Our troop will be collecting $6 per girl to put towards
supplies, special patches, projects, etc.

#3 – Please bring a bottle of water to the meeting.

Our meetings are only and hour this year, so please send  your daughter prepared and ready to jump into our meeting. We ask that parents and siblings please stay seated in the seating areas and keep the level of conversations at a respectable level. We have a lot to cover with our girls in that short hour and it is hard when you cannot hear the girls. Also there is another group that comes into the lodge at 5:30P, we need to be ready to exit the building right at 5:30 PM.

To see all of our troop pictures, look on the right side under "Troop Links" and click on our "Troop Photo Gallery”.
